Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

We had a great Christmas day, winding up with a very good dinner courtesy of Rob and Theresa. Our kitchen doesn't exist right now, stay tuned for that update.

High on Anti-oxidents; in, I meant in.

Gloria found this bottle of Wine in Orlando and brought it over for Thanksgiving. I was thinking of ordering a bottle so it was a real nice surprise. The Fulkerson Winery is located in upstate New York. I think I should bug Tom into creating a jingle for them. I came up with a few, like:
"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy." No, wait, that's taken.

Thanks again sis!

Thanksgiving 2007

Family Thanksgiving was special for 2007. Theresa did the meal and it was served at Rob and her new house. Gloria and Aimee flew in from Orlando to spend it with us. All together we had Rob and Theresa, Gloria and Aimee, Sue, Sierra and J.D., Bob and Judy Iliff, Robs aunt Jean.
It was a good meal and everyone had a good time.

 Thanksgiving Guests

Sues Sister Gloria and her granddaughter Aimee came into town for Thanksgiving. As usual, Sierra and Aimee got together.

My Day At Work

RE: Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station Lockdown.
As some of you may know, Friday Nov. 2 a contract worker drove his pickup truck to the security checkpoint at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. The guards found a capped pipe in the back of the pickup. They detained the truck and driver. When the county sheriff team showed up they determined that there was an explosive substance in the pipe. At which time the nations largest power producer went into security lockdown for seven hours. I was already at work in building B.

I'm glad I decided to bring a lot of snacks and a large lunch, The Cafeteria is in Bldg A, Once the lockdown started we couldn't leave the building.

If I had been late to work ten more minutes I would probably been stuck in line for an hour then sent home.

The people who suffered the most had to be the smokers, there was a rush for the doors when the seven hour lockdown was ended.

Some of the Cafeteria staff stayed after the lockdown ended to provide sandwiches, salads, and pizzas for hungry workers. Some were night shift workers who didn't get off-site before the lockdown.

It was an interesting experience, a very unproductive day, I'm just glad everything turned out ok.

Halloween 2007

Sierra the Dark Fairy

Willcox Trip

On Oct. 20 Sue, Sierra, myself and a friend of ours, Carrie, took a road trip to Willcox to visit some friends there. We went to a farm for Sierra to pick up a pumpkin for Halloween, we also picked up some organic apples. We had a great dinner together with some of the vegies we bought at the farm. We had stopped in Tucson for a quick break at the swap meet. Saturday night we watched the meteor shower and looked through a telescope at the moon. Going home we stopped at the Flandrau Planetarium in Tucson so Sierra could touch a real meteor. She did some experiments with a magnet to prove to herself that it was mostly iron. We also stopped at the Nut House in Picacho Peak for a break. That is where the photo was taken.

Not MY Job

Gloria sent this in one of those emails with pictures. I thought it was a good one, and with a local source as well. Kinda disgusting, but I guess that was the point.

Flagstaff Field Trip

Needing a break from the 1?? temperatures of hoenix late summer, we headed up to Flagstaff for a nice cool, low stress weekend. We visited with our friends Kat & Scott and took a tour of the Lowell Observatory. Sierra loved it. How many kids do YOU know that have been at the controls and moved a 110+ year old historic telescope?

Sierra's First Day In Grade 4

August 13, 2007, Projected high temperature for the day, 110. First day for Sierra in grade 4. She has been impatiently waiting ALL summer for school to finally begin. She will be having the same teacher she had for Kindtergarten and First grade.

Summer Pumpkin

August 11, 2007

Our surprise summer pumpkin. The vine died and with the extra heat and humidity, it started to rot. But we finally DID get a pumpkin! It just won't make it to Halloween.

 It's Rain!

 July 24, 2007

The first good rain of the 2007 Monsoon. 1 1/2 inches by my rain gauge. Not much wind, just rain. Washed all the mudballs off the cars from the last sprinkle we got.

Our 2007 Cruise

We had an incredible Cruise to the Cayman Islands, Belize and Mexico. We were with Gloria (Sues Sister) John, Aimee, Theresa, Rob, Mike and Brittany. It was a wonderful family event. There is so much about the trip I've created a special Photo Gallery section for it. Held the last week in June, we were on the Carnival Legend. Getting pampered and eating very fine food. Interesting side note, I actually LOST five pounds during the cruise. Be sure to see the photos!

The Cruise

July 1, 2017
As I sit here in the Tampa Airport getting ready to return to Phoenix, I'm reflecting on an amazing week. All the fun of having family around and cruising the Western Carribean! Snokeling, Snuba'ing, touring, we did a LOT. I'll try to get photos up soon.

Best Garden We NEVER Planted

Basically we buy our garden and install it. We do plant seeds but not as often. But we always welcome "volunteers". After the new block wall was built, we emptied the compost bins into the plant beds. The seeds took hold . . . and how! We have several squash of unknown types. Watermelon, Tomatoes, and Pumpkin. We currently have a nice 6 inch pumpkin growing. Our lone broccoli plant bolted, it's just too hot.

Sierra's Dance Recital

Sierra's Dance school held it's summer recital June 6. Called "Ovation" it was taken from a mix of musicals. Sierra was in five numbers including the opening. Here she is modeling her "Bali Hi" costume. The number starts with Sierra solo, then her friend Tawny coming in to make it a duet. If you get the chance to see the video of the show you will find Sierra is turning into quite the ballerina.

Catching Up

May 14, 2007

So whats been going on?

Had a nice Mothers Day for Sue. Started with a very good breakfast buffet at the Deer Valley Airport restaurant. Ended with dinner at Top Shelf.

I'm doing better since getting the back left molar extracted. Be VERY glad when I can eat more solid food.

Ginger still has larynengitis, but with the steroids and benedryl, she is slowly getting louder.

Finishing some of the outdoor home improvement projects, this will go on for a few months.

The New Front Yard

With a fresh coat of paint and new landscaping, the front of the house looks better than ever.

Koi Pond Finally Finished

It took 13 years, but we finally finished the Koi Pond. Koi to be purchased in July. See other photos in 2007 photo album.
Next up . . . Photos of the new landscaping for the front yard!

Sierra's New Glasses

I had to get glasses when I was around 10, Sue had to about that time as well. So when Sierra said she was having problems seeing the blackboard (greenboard, whiteboard, whatever they call it now) we knew what it meant. She is SSOO excited to be able to see clearly. Going through that "everything is clear" phase that those of use afflicted with the need for glasses all go through.

Easter

Easter was quiet, Rob and Theresa joined us for Easter lunch. Angela from next door came over to hunt easter eggs with Sierra.
April 10 was Sue and my 13th. Wedding Anniversary. We had a great dinner at Stuart Andersons Monday night. Last night Sierra fixed pasta for dinner (with a little help).

Sierra's Birthday

We had Sierras 9th birthday on March 31 this year. The theme was a Pirate party and we held it at the Deer Valley park. It was a nice day and all the kids had a great time.

NUCLEAR Family - J.D.

Well, I changed jobs again. Took a six month contract position doing technical documentation at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. Lot of words, lot of miles. It's 66.7 miles in the AM with 99.9 on the FM, and 66.9 miles in the PM with 98.7 on the FM. But I am working four 10 hour days with the highest paying job I've ever had, and I know I'll be getting a paycheck once a week. Right now, that's important, and driving the Prius, at least I won't have to sweat the eventual $3.00 per gallon gas.

Now it's gone

THIS was the pile of fronds from the Palm Trees. This is the end of a ridge that goes back about 12 feet.

They took them all away, now the yard is getting better.

Bad Storm

Remember a month ago or so there was a baad tornado that hit Orlando Florida? It was not too far from where Gloria and family are at. This photo was taken by a friend of Gloria's co-worker. It is just an amazing photograph.

This has GOT to be the coolest picture I have EVER seen and I was a Photographer's Mate in the Navy and have literally seen millions of pictures. This needs to be sent in to National Geographic Magazine and I'm positive it would be published.

Cool I love that picture. I'm JDs kid.

Try again next year

Dispite popular opinion, Sierra didn't get to place at the school Science Fair. She did get a huge medal for participating. We took a good look at the exhibits that won, we will try again next year!

Science and the Renaissance

On March 11, we took the LLLLOOOOONNNNNNGGGG trip to the Renaissance festival. Where for $20 you get the opportunity to spend more money on interesting stuff and food. Due to typical freeway constuction we had to take a detour.

Once there we had a fun time, although with temperatures hovering around 90 degrees it was hot.

Sierra had her hair done.

This morning we transported Sierras Science Fair project "What is a Rainbow" to school. Stay tuned for the outcome.

Bulk Trash

by jdfulkerson
Four times a year the City of Phoenix has a bulk trash pickup. Basically you have 2 weeks to scurry around your house and yard on a hunt. You look for stuff to throw away that is too big for the trash bin and put it out by the sidewalk.
The side effect is that people drive up and down the streets looking for items to recycle (against the law in Phoenix, which I think is rather dumb, The Junk Brothers on HGTV wouldn't have a show if they couldn't curb shop). This year we finally broke down and had the two giant palm trees in the front yard cleaned.
We have a pile of fronds six feet high and at least twelve feet long. Some people deal with snowdrifts, we are dealing with a palm drift. Hope we don't get any strong winds.

 Matsuri

We went to the Phoenix Matsuri Japanese Festival on Feb. 24. It is one of our annual "Don't Miss" events.

Sierra made a few craft projects.

We had a great lunch including Yakitori, Teriyaki, rice, spring rolls and Katsu. Sierra tried a Melon soda, which was too carbonated for her taste, when it went flat it tasted better. Interesting bottle it came in. Had a glass ball stopper that would be pushed in to become a bubble in the bottle.

Checked out all the Koi. Whenever we get the pond built we will have Koi again.

One of my favorite things is to listen to the Taiko drummers, they had drummers from all over this time. Ran into our friends Carrie and Keith, they said the Tuerffs minus Jan was there as well, but we didn't see them. Was a huge crowd, and for an event that didn't get any mainstream media coverage that I heard or saw. This year the Anime/Comic booths were there. It was rather surreal, kind of Matsuri meets Comic Con. We enjoyed it.
