Happy New Year 2010

by jdfulkerson
Hope everyone is having a good start for the new year. There was plenty of things that happened the hours leading up to 2010 that was good to have done with in 2009. A few minor fender benders and stuff. But that is over and now we can start a new year, and a new decade.

Snow Trip 2010

by jdfulkerson

We were all sick from allergies and pollution, so we took a quick last minute trip up to Flagstaff to breath clean air for a little while. Sierra got some sled time in. We brought our stove and Sue fixed Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and Chili. Back in Phoenix, trying to breath crappy air again, but we have memories of clean air.

The BIG Rain

by jdfulkerson
We are currently in the middle of three powerful winter storms.
Here is the rain totals from my rain gauge.

Storm 1 - Monday - .2 inches
Storm 2 - Tuesday - 1.4 inches
Storm 3 - Thursday - .7 at 7:45am
1.4 inches at 6:00pm - Tornado Warnings posted
Friday - 2.2 inches at 7:45sm - Roof of Bookmans in Flagstaff collapsed.
This third storm is suppose to be the largest of the three. Considering that we ended 2009 minus 3 something inches, this is a nice start. Final on Storm number 3 was 2.3 inches rain on my gauge.

Flagstaff was snowed in with 5 - 7 inches of snow on Storm 2. They recently opened the interstates through the high country.
Flagstaff snowed in for the third storm.

Sierra - Fashionista

Sierra got some very nice clothes for Christmas. One of her Christmas wishes was to get purple streaks in her hair, so that finally took place as well.

 Busy Weekend

by jdfulkerson
It looks like a busy weekend ahead. Saturday Sierra has to go to a special dance rehearsal. Then I have my Solar Energy class. Afternoon Sierra has Soccer, later in the evening Sierra is helping with a dance program celebrating the upcoming Chinese New Year. Sunday we will be doing everything else; cleaning, groceries, chicken feed, laundry, and whatever else gets dropped in.

Happy Birthday Susie!

New Chicks

Sierra bought Sue 6 chicks for her Birthday. Rob and Theresa took Sue to lunch. We will have a birthday dinner Saturday. Didn't get much rain Wednesday. The Solar Class only had 3 students but went well. Would have had more but I had to move the date at the last minute due to the big storm.

Hey it's me Sierra

by sdfulkerson
Hey I'm on the web. Yeah, I now have my own website. Go down to the other websites and look for Sierra's site. And POOF your at my website. Play games, Have updates, yummy recipes, and you can tell me what you want on my website by posting comments.

And as I say on the web,
Peace out,
Sierra

Valentines Day 2010

For Valentines Day Star Lilies were the fleur de jour. We went to Red Lobster for lunch. Later we went to the Laundrmat to do 6 loads of laundry. Maybe not so much romantic, but necessary.

 Ah . . . sweet freedom

Sierra finally grew into the bike we got Sue two Christmas' ago. So with her next door friend Angels help, she learned to ride a bike without training wheels. She was out terrorizing the neighborhood 48 hours later.

Today's Special, Chicken In A Basket

We have had a great El Nino year. The rain every weekend could have been planned better. Went to the Matsuri Japanese Festival on Saturday before taking Sierra to Soccer. It was fun as always, but it is really getting popular, read crowded. My thought was that because it was going to rain Sunday everyone went Saturday.
We were planning on going over to Pete & Donnas for Music Night, but due to our washer breaking down, we instead had to go to the Laundramat. Hope to get all the veggie starts into the garden Saturday, as Sunday it's suppose to (wait for it) rain. Last year we were 3 inches short on rain for the year. We are WAY ahead for this year.

 More Rain

More rain. Sunday - Monday storm put 1.3 inches in my rain gauge. Sierra couldn't go out bike riding, so she enjoyed watching the rain from the crows nest of her play set. The Umbrella as a portable roof made the deal.

 About that time

I guess It's about time to go camping when the kids set up camp in the front yard.

Happy Birthday Sierra

by jdfulkerson
Sierra is 12 years old today!!!

Happy Easter 2010

Sue had heard that using brown eggs for Easter eggs would deliver a more vivid color. So we tried this year, using simple food coloring and vinegar. The results, as you can see, were dramatic, brilliant jeweltone colors. Of course the natural colors (brown and green eggs on far left) are a nice start. Generally we would use white eggs because unlike fresh eggs, older commercial eggs are a lot easier to peel when hard boiled.

Science Fair Project

Sierra's Science Fair project for this year was an experiment to see of three types of bread, which one would mold first. Given the time frame, none of them molded. The chickens enjoyed the project later.

Happy Birthday J.D.

May 25, my 54th Birthday. Sierra made a card for me which was very nice. In checking out the free birthday stuff list, I found that Denny's restaurants had started a free birthday Grand Slam meal. As they serve breakfast all day, it was breakfast for dinner. Then we went over to Krispy Kreme donuts and got my free dozen birthday box. All in all a nice day.

The Magic Mountain Trip

Memorial Day weekend we took a fast trip to L.A. Sierra conquered Magic Mountain, then we enjoyed the Santa Monica Pier.

Fathers Day

by jdfulkerson
Sunday was Fathers day. Sierra had been working hard making an electronic Fathers Day card for me. I really enjoyed it. I converted it to Flash and posted it in the Videos section, Featured Video. Click on the picture to move to the next picture. It's missing all of the great transistions Sierra put in, I may try to post one with timed transistions instead of click the picture. We had a great breakfast at Deer Valley Airport restaurant. Love that buffet. Did some shopping, Lunch was at Oscars Pier 83. They had a Fathers Day deal where my meal was free. We aimed for a late lunch to miss the crowds and were successful. They said they were really hit from 11:00 to 2:00. In the evening we went to Pete and Donnas pool party and enjoyed meeting up with a lot of friends.

2010 Trip to California

Lake Pleasant Campout

Ok, so it wasn't EXACTLY pleasant at Lake Pleasant Fourth of July weekend. Highs around 113 degrees made it rough. But Sierra and her 3 friends made the best of it. The misting system we set up in the screen room was about the only way to make it tolerable. The camping newbies seems to have fun in spite of the heat.

Cool Music Video

by jdfulkerson
Sierra found this video on You Tube. She really enjoys this song. I like the song and the video. It's called fireflies by Owl City.

August 16 2010

Sierra's first day in Seventh grade, new grade, new school, she is now in Middle School.

J.D.'s first day as a permanent full time employee at Rockwell Automation.

New Peeps again

Six new chicks to add to the flock.

Tonto Natural Bridge

We took a quick trip to Payson and to Tonto Natural Bridge State Park. One of my favorite places in Arizona. Sierra's first trip and she really loved the place. Good place to eat in Payson? We had a great lunch at the Knotty Pine Cafe.

Sierra at the Fall Concert

Fall Concert at Deer Valley Middle School.

Sierras Halloween Party

Sierra had a Halloween party on Saturday Oct. 30. She invited a number of friends from school. Sue fixed up the back yard and everyone had a fun time.

Sierra the pirate

For Halloween, Sierra was a pirate. We had a good number of kids coming by for Trick or Treat.

Harvest Party

We had a few friends over for a Harvest Party. We fixed one turkey in a dutch oven with wine and butter injected into it. We smoked one turkey, and had a duck on the rotisserie. Guest brought a dish to share. Sue tweaked her already awesome Pumpkin Pie recipe and also her Sweet Potato Casserole recipe. They were even better!

 Office Cheesecake Contest

We were disappointed not to win first place again in the office Cheesecake contest, but were happy with the Christmas Cranberry Delite Cheesecake that took third place. Lots of good comments on it.

2010 Winter Concert

Sierra and her friend Collette at the Middle School Winter concert.

 Merry Christmas

Christmas Tree 2010.
